Finasteride is 4 - nitrogen compounds of steroid hormones, for specific Ⅱ type 5 alpha reductase inhibitors, inhibition of peripheral testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), reduce blood and prostate, skin, etc in DHT levels in the organization. The growth, development and BPH of the prostate depend on DHT, and finasteride inhibits BPH and improves the clinical symptoms associated with BPH by lowering DHT levels in the blood and prostate tissues.

Application of finasteride in hair loss:

Finasteride is a synthetic steroid compound that is a specific inhibitor of the intracellular enzyme type II 5 reductase during the metabolism of androgen to DHT. Finasteride has no affinity for androgen receptors and has no androgen, antiandrogen, estrogen-like, antiestrogen-like, or pregnancy-promoting effects. Inhibition of this enzyme can inhibit the testosterone in peripheral tissues, which can increase the blood circulating testosterone level by about 10-15%, but still within the physiological range. Finasteride can reduce the serum DHT concentration rapidly and significantly within 24 hours of administration.

Hair follicles contain type II 5 -reductase, which reduces hair follicles and increases dihydrotestosterone in bald men. The administration of finasteride reduced the concentration of DHT in the scalp and serum of these patients. Men with congenital deficiency of type II 5 -reductase do not develop male baldness.
